New Orleans Airport (MSY) is located approximately 20-25 minutes from downtown New Orleans. After arriving at and before departing from the airport travelers have to transfer from or to it. At MSY available options of transfer include rental cars, public transportation buses, taxis, shuttles and ride shares.

Before proceeding to exit the Baggage Claim area or before exiting the chosen transfer vehicle at the airport, please make sure to collect your entire luggage.

Transfers at New Orleans International Airport

Rental Cars – All car rental companies at New Orleans Airport are located in the MSY Consolidated Car Rental Center located approximately 15-20 minutes’ drive from the terminal on 600 Rental Boulevard, Kenner, LA 70062.

The MSY Rental Car Lot Shuttle transfers travelers/customers between the two locations with a non-stop service that is available 24 hours a day, 7 days a week. Typically shuttles depart every 5 minutes.

The shuttle is available in front of the Long Term Parking Garage located adjacent to the terminal. Exit the terminal on the Baggage Claim level 1.

Public Transportation Buses – There are two routes for scheduled bus service from and to Louis Armstrong New Orleans International Airport. One is operated by JET (Jefferson Transit Authority and the other by RTA (Regional Transit Authority). Both depart from the outer curb outside Level 3 Ticket Lobby.

The JET route is called Veterans (E1) and the fare is $2 payable in the fare boxes located onboard the buses. The fare boxes accept U.S. dollar bills up to $20 as well as all U.S. coins.

The RTA route is called Airport Express (202) and the fare is $1.50.

Taxis – The taxi rank is located outside Baggage Claim Door 7 on Level 1, on the Arrivals Curb.

A ride from the airport to the CBD (Central Business Center) or French Quarter (west of Elysian Fields) for up to two passengers will cost $36, and for three or more passengers the fare is $15 per person/passenger. Airport Shuttles – An airport shuttle service is available from the airport. Tickets can be purchased directly at the airport, without the need for an advance reservation. An Airport Shuttle Ticket booth is located in the Baggage Claim area on Level 1 in between Doors 3 and 4.

The fare for a single journey per person, and up to three bags, is $24 and for a round-trip it is $44 per person. Additional bags may be subject to additional fees, provided that there is room.

Hotel Shuttles – When hotels offer an airport shuttle service to their guests they collect the traveler from the Ground Transportation Center outside of Level 1 Baggage Claim Doors 1 through 5. These transfers are organized by the hotels if they offer the service. Travelers have to request the transfer in advance directly through their hotel or through the travel agency. Ride Shares – Ride App services are available at the airport through two different companies. They collect their customers outside of Level 1 Baggage Claim Doors 7 through 11. After the ride has been requested by the traveler through the chosen company’s app they exit through the doors, cross the walkway to the middle curb and join the queue of the chosen company.

Greyhound – Greyhound buses are not available at the airport, but there is Greyhound services (as well as Megabus and NORTA) available at the New Orleans Union Passenger Terminal in central New Orleans.
